Last Order Dates For
Christmas Delivery 2011
Christmas is approaching fast (wasn't it just
Christmas a few weeks ago...?) and that means we need to let
you know of the all important last order dates.
** Please note that if the last date for CD
delivery has passed, but there is still time for MP3, you
can always order your song on both CD and MP3 webpage format
- this will mean you will get your MP3 in time for
Christmas, whilst your CD will arrive sometime after. **
Please order on or before
these dates for Christmas Delivery 2011:
Our very own
Derek Daisey has just released the official music video
for his song 'Where To Begin', which is a single from his
album 'All Behind Me' (available
to order on CD here).
We hope everyone who ordered a song for their
loved one really enjoyed giving them such a special gift
(even if we do say so ourselves...!) and that the recipient
loved it too.
We have a new template song
available to personalise and order, courtesy of the talented
Derek Daisey.
'Where We're
Leading To' is a a piano ballad, in a contemporary,
haunting style - a truly beautiful song that is sure to make
the recipient melt inside...
You can listen to the song, read the lyrics,
and see which parts can be personalised (with unique vocals
sung by Derek Daisey), at the
'Where We're
Leading To' order page.
Happy New Year 2011
3rd January 2011
We'd like to wish all our Give-a-song.com
visitors a happy new year; we hope 2011 proves to be a very
happy and fruitful year for you all!
We're looking forward to writing and recording lots more
song in this new decade!
We're proud to be featured
in the October issue of Uncovered, FlyBe's
in-flight glossy magazine.
Within the article 'Turning
Pastimes Into Pounds', Give-a-song's founder,
Alan Law, gives an interview on
how he set up the songwriting business back in 2004, after
his wife came up with the idea of turning his love of music
into a business.
So, if you happen to be on a
FlyBe flight this month, make sure to check out the feature!
Perhaps you’re just a few weeks
into your relationship, or maybe you’ve been married for
five years – however long you’ve been together the ‘romantic
night in’ is something you’ll no doubt experience. Planning
the perfect evening needn’t be stressful, either – read our
guide on creating a romantic experience that doesn’t break
the bank.
Do set a date in advance.
This is vital, as it’s important you have enough time to
organise everything that we’ll go through in the rest of
this guide! Although spontaneity is romantic in itself, it
doesn’t allow you to be best prepared, and that can cause a
whole host of problems...
Do make it personal to your loved one. The
clichés are still romantic, yes – you can’t go wrong with
candles and soft music – but it’s important to do much more
than this, to tailor the evening according to your beloved’s
tastes. Does he adore steak? Then cook a beautiful sirloin.
Does she love surprises? Give her some
romantic gifts as
soon as she comes in the door.
Do make sure you’re not disturbed. This
means turning that mobile phone off, or at least putting it
on silent. Now’s also the time to hang out that ‘no
salesman’ sign on your front door – a romantic night in
needs to be just the two of you, with no disturbances or
distractions.
Do dress up. This is a special night, so
dress for the occasion. If you’re a man, why not buy a brand
new shirt, or put on the tux that’s been gathering dust in
the wardrobe. If you’re a woman, how about buying a gorgeous
new dress and earrings. It’ll make you both feel sexier, and
more in the mood for romance.
Do make a real effort. Takeaway pizzas are
a real no-no. It doesn’t matter if you’re a rubbish cook –
as long as you have made the effort, then that’s all that
matters. Simple recipes can be found easily on the internet,
and even if you do manage to do something wrong, at least
you’ll both have something to talk and smile about for the
rest of the night...
Don’t talk about work.
You do this every day anyway, so avoid ‘talking shop’ –
instead, talk about all those things you don’t normally talk
about: how much you love her, what you think is so amazing
about him.
Don’t get stressed. If he’s a few minutes
late turning up, don’t worry – he’ll be here soon. If the
lamb has got a distinct ‘almost-burnt’ smell to it, it
doesn’t matter – relax. Getting worked up about things will
only ruin the night and get you in the wrong frame of mind
for romance – so, take a chill pill, sit back , and just
enjoy what the night brings.
Don’t switch the TV on. Even if your
beloved football team is in the cup final, it still doesn’t
mean you’re allowed to check the score. (You shouldn’t have
arranged the romantic night for this particular date,
anyway!)
Don’t end the night early. Unless you’re
retiring to the bedroom – and, in that case, the night’s
obviously been a success already – don’t finish your meal
and then wonder what to do next; don’t go back to the TV. Go
through some photo albums together, play a romantic board
game, relax in the bath - there are lots of romantic things
you can do together.

There’s so much pressure on us guys these days:
we’ve got to be successful at the workplace, own a beautiful
home, have clever children and keep our wives happy. And which
is the hardest to achieve from that list? Yes, you guessed it
– keeping your beloved woman smiling. Here are five easy and
practical tips on how you can become a better husband:
1. Compliment her. This is a really easy one, and yet
so many men fail to do it. The trick is to do it often, and
really mean it. Don’t be shy; if she looks amazing in her new
dress, tell her so. But don’t just limit it to special
occasions; tell her she’s beautiful when she wakes up in the
morning, let her know her Spaghetti Bolognese was fantastic,
mention how much you appreciate her picking the kids up from
school.
2. Help out around the house. If you’re one of those
guys who reads a newspaper while your wife is hoovering around
your feet, then you need to think again – it’s about time you
shared some of those chores. It doesn’t need to be a 50:50
split, especially if you’re the only one with a job, but, if
you’re both out at work all day, it’s hardly fair that she
does all the cleaning too.

3. Be strong. Although women may say they like guys who
are in touch with their feminine side, they don’t want to be
married to a cry baby. Women need a strong, supportive figure;
someone who will be confident in the face of adversary, who
will show them that things are going to be OK. If you crack
under pressure, she’s more likely to as well – so stand up
straight, and face life’s challenges with confidence.
4. Be romantic. You may have been married for twenty
five years, with three screaming teenager in tow, but that
doesn’t mean that romance should be forgotten about. On the
contrary, romance is perhaps the most important thing to keep
alive. Buy some romantic gifts for her, take her out for a
moonlit stroll, whisk her away to Venice – whether it’s free
or expensive, your romantic gesture will be adored.
5. Don’t take her for granted. This is a cardinal sin,
and a trap that countless men fall into. She’s always cooked
your meals for you, always cleaned up after you...it’s just
the norm, right? Wrong. Although she may do these things, it
doesn’t mean they should go unnoticed. Even if you just
mention what a great job she’s doing now and again, it’ll go a
long way to showing her you notice and appreciate her hard
work.
Well, now you know, and, to celebrate, we’re giving away a
totally original song, to be written and recorded by
your
choice of singer-songwriter, to your requirements. Your song
will be delivered on CD, and you’ll also get a unique MP3
webpage too – that’s £199.99
($309.99) worth of prize!
Your song can be made for someone else, or you could get it
made for yourself if you’d prefer.
To stand a chance, all you have to do is ‘Become
A Fan’ of Give-a-song.com on Facebook, and then
write a message on our wall telling us why you’d like to
win an original song.
It could be because you want to tell your wife that you really
adore her beans on toast; it could be because you want to tell
your man you appreciate him cleaning the toilet (once a year
or so!) – whatever the reason, just write a message on our
wall and let us know.
Everyone who ‘becomes a fan’ and leaves a message will enter
the draw to win an original song.
The winner will be randomly picked on 31st October 2009, and
we will let you know via Facebook if you win. You’ll then be
able to choose your singer-songwriter, send us all the details
you’d like included, and we’ll get to work creating your
original song on CD and MP3.
So, what are you waiting for – ‘Become
A Fan’, write a message, and you could win £199.99
($309.99) of original song goodness!
We get lots of different and varied song
requests here at Give-a-song.com, and I thought it would be a
good idea to share some of these song orders with you all.
Although many people's first impressions of a personalized
song is that it is a romantic gift, given between two lovers,
this doesn't always have to be the case - a custom song really
can be given for any occasion.
Here are some of the song
orders we've been working on this week:
Derek Daisey has
been writing and recording a birthday song, which was
commissioned by a group of physicians in America. They wanted
the song done 'Elvis' style, and with lots of funny info
included about their work colleague (including how he eats outdated
food in the fridge at work - ewww!).
Howie Cross
created a unique 40th wedding anniversary song for a lucky
recipient in England. The couple in question met at Drama
School all those years ago, and the song was dedicated to
their next 40 years together.
Brenda-Lee
Heathcote wrote and recorded a song in the style of The
Monkees, to be played as the showpiece at an anniversary
party.
One of the songs I have worked on (Alan
Law - that's me!), which really made me smile, included a
lovely detail: the recipient of the song had proposed to his
now-wife in style, dressed as a Knight in Shining Armour at a
medieval-themed party. How romantic is that?
These are just some of the song orders we've
been working on this week - I hope you enjoyed reading a bit
about them.
Give Someone Their
Very Own Song! Give-a-song.com are a team of singer-songwriters who write and
record unique songs, using your details - they make
fantastic, unusual gifts, suitable for any occasion.
Our songs make fantastic surprise gifts for
your wedding day - any bride or groom would be thrilled. By the
way, if you're looking for a
wedding
photographer in Cornwall, then we can also point you in the
right direction.
